Lake Leschenaultia - Perth - Western AustraliaPhotos of Lake Leschenaultia - Chidlow - Mundaring - Perth - Western Australia - June 2009. Lake Leschenaultia is a manmade lake built in 1897 as a dam for the Western Australia Government Railway, to replenish the steam engines at the Chidlow Well Station, that travelled to other parts of the state. Originally, Lake Leschenaultia was known as Chidlows Well and nowadays is a popular recreational area with shaded areas, lawns, sand beaches, excellent for family picnics, barbecues, bush walking, swimming, canoeing and cycling. People can also appreciate seasonal wildflowers, native trees like the Marri and Wandoo, as well as animals roaming the surrounding bush, such as ducks, geese, herons, swamp hens, kangaroos, possums, bandicoots and echidnas.
